Lancaster of India – Ludhiana

Ludhiana is a most densely populated city of India located in the state of Punjab. It got its name from the Lodhi dynasty in the year 1480. The river Satluj divides Ludhiana from the city of Jalandhar. Ludhiana is worldwide popular for textile and light engineering industries. One of the most popular university, the Punjab Agricultural University is also located on the outskirts of Ludhiana. It organizes the Kisaan Mela every year. It is a famous historical construction. About 10 km. from Ludhiana is situated the famous Gurudwara Shrimanji Sahib Alamgir. This place is significant because it was here that the pacifist Sikh kin was converted to a martial community by the last Sikh guru, Guru Gobind Singh. The 'Khalsa' was introduced here by him. Every year in December, a fair is held. Another place of interest is the Phillaur fort which is now a place of police training center. Designed by Dewan Mohkam Chand, it is a historical fort of ancient times.
Pir-I-Dastgir shrine is a famous shrine of Peer Abdul Kadar Gilani that draws both Hindu and Muslim devotees towards it. It is located in the north-west part of Ludhiana. Some of the some other places of religious importance are Gurudwara Charan Kamal, Gurudwara Nanaksar Jagraon, the famous tombs of Hussain Khan and Bahadur Khan and the Bilwanwali Masjid. A place of popular tourist attraction is the Nehru Rose Garden spread over an area of 30 acres in the posh area of Ludhiana. About 17,000 plants and 1600 varieties of roses and numerous fountains make this place a centre of relaxation. A rose festival is held here every year. Located on the GT Road, 6 km. from the main city, is a fantabulous tiger safari known as the Tiger Zoo. Varieties of majestic tigers can be seen here.
A lovely amusement park, the main attraction not only for the kids but all age groups is the amazing Harry's World. The main attractions are ice-skating and snowfall. The Itmad -Ud -Daula as a by the Empress Noor Jehan as a memorial to her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg , is beautifully ornamented with pietra dura inlay and lattice work marble screens.

Chini Ka Roza : The tomb of Afzal Khan, the persian poet and minister at Shah Jehan's court gets its name from the brightly coloured glazed tiles that decorate it . Lies just 1km beyond itmad -ud -daula.

Nahargarh Fort, which was the residence of the King Sawai Jai Singh II, crowns the hill in the northwest corner of the old city. The observatory, Jantar Mantar, is one of the World Heritage Sites.[2] Jaipur is a popular tourist destination in Rajasthan and India.

In 1876 Jaipur was colored in terracotta pink to welcome Prince Albert, and thus the name “Pink City” was attached with the city.[3]

The capital of Meghalaya, Shilong lies on the eastern part of the state. Perched at an altitude of 1,520 meters (4,990 feet) above sea level, the city stretches for about 6 km on an elevated tract. It is situated on a plateau bound on the north by the Umiam gorge, on the northwest by the great mass of the Diengiei Hills that rise up to a height of 1,823 meters (6077 ft.) above sea level, and on the northeast by the hills of the Assam valley. The Umshyrpi and the Umkhra rivers, which finally merge and form the Umiam River, water it. Shilong is at distance of 104 km from Guwahati, 295 km from Kaziranga, 578 km from Siliguri and 658 km from Darjeeling. The climate is hot and humid during summers. The monsoons arrive in June and it rains almost until the end of August. It is quite cold during winters.

*    Tour to Shilong The Crinoline Falls is about 12-13 m in height and lies to the west of  the Survey of India Office. There is a swimming pool at the base of the falls.

*    The Gunner's Falls 1 is about 24-26 m in height and is near the military establishment  on the Upper Shilong road. It is about 1.6 km from the GPO.

*    The Gunner's Falls 2 lies a km away from the Happy Valley amidst picturesque locales.

*    The Spread Eagle Falls or Sati Falls is located about a mile away from the Polo Ground.  It is a famous picnic spot.
